DuckDuckGo has a bone to pick with Samsung over Google Search in One UI 9
DuckDuckGo has publicly challenged Samsung over One UI 9's design decision to embed Google's search bar directly into the home screen, restricting user ability to switch search providers. While users can disable the bar through settings, the permanent placement favors Google and follows similar practices by Motorola on Android 17. The move reflects tension around default search placement on Android devices.
Key points
- Google Search bar hardwired into One UI 9 home screen by default
- DuckDuckGo accuses Google of limiting user search choice
- Users can disable bar via settings but defaults heavily favor Google
- Mirrors similar search defaults on Motorola devices running Android 17
